APEX Legends – The New Fortnite? (First Impressions)

Fortnite has been at the top of the ladder for shooters and battle royales for over a year now, but all that is about to change. APEX Legends is a brand new free-to-play game released by EA to compete with other battle royale games in the market and they came out firing. APEX gathered more than 10 million players within the first 3 days of its release and is surprisingly taking players away from Fortnite. Let’s take a look at what is making APEX such a huge hit in the gaming community.

At first glance, APEX seems very similar to other first-person shooters. There is nothing special about the guns or the moving mechanics in the game, but that is one of the reasons people are drawn to this game. The gameplay is very familiar and allows for a smooth transition between other battle royales and first-person shooters.

Other factors that make APEX such a hit is how they incorporated different aspects from multiple successful games on the market. One of the most interesting concepts they introduced to battle royales is the ability to choose a champion with natural passive moves and ultimate moves. Champions with unique abilities were previously in games like League of Legends and Overwatch, but never in a battle royale games. This allows players to choose their style of play and makes the gameplay unique from other battle royale games.

Another feature that was not previously seen in other battle royale games include three-man squads instead of the usual four, a universal ping system that allows for players to communicate with teammates that might not have a mic for their system. This is a brilliant addition as communication is very important when playing as a squad and it was incorporated wonderfully by EA.

APEX is rising fast and not even Fortnite seems to be slowing it down. At this rate, it will definitely overtake Fortnite as the most popular game, but only time will tell if all this hype will slow down or get bigger.
