Changes with the CONCACAF League and Champions League

CONCACAF announced a couple of changes regarding that their international club tournaments.
     The one change that will impact the teams in the NAFU or North American Football Union is that the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League will come back in mid December to finish the tournament. This return will be played in a neutral site in the United States with no fans allowed even if the local government allow for fans to come to the stadium. The dates will be from December 15th to the 22nd. The first couple of games will be played on December 15th-16th, the Semifinals on the 19th and the final on the 22nd. All games that are going to be played are going to be single leg affairs like those for the UEFA Champions League in the 2019-2020 season. The games that are going to come back are:
Quarterfinals (numbers in parenthesis are the results of the first leg before the stoppage where available) (to be played on December 15th or 16th)

  • CD Olimpia (HON)(2)-Montreal Impact (CAN)(1)
  • Atlanta United FC (USA)(0)-Club America (MEX)(3)
  • Tigres UANL(MEX)(1)-NYCFC(USA)(0)
  • LAFC (USA)-Cruz Azul (MEX)

Semifinals (to be played on December 19th)

  • Semifinal 1: Winner of  America-Atlanta United vs Winner of LAFC-Cruz Azul
  • Semifinal 2:  Winner of Tigres-NYCFC vs Winner of Olimpia-Montreal

Final (to be played on December 22nd)

  • Winners of both semifinals

The second change is to the CONCACAF League. The changes to this competition are more extensive as all rounds are going to be a single leg game. The teams that are going to the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League are the four winners of the quarterfinal games AND the two play-in game winners. The play-in round is going to be composed of the four losers of the quarterfinal games. The schedule will be:

Preliminary round

November 3rd at 6pm ET

  • LD Alajuelense (CRC) vs Cibao FC (DOM) 
    • Makeup from October 21st 
    • Winner plays San Fransisco (PAN) TBD in the Rommel Fernandez Stadium

Round of 16 (all times Eastern)

Tuesday November 3rd 

  • Tauro FC (PAN) vs Forge FC (CAN) at 8pm 
  • CD Marathon (HON) vs Antigua GFC (GUA) at 10:15pm 

Wednesday November 4th

  • Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) vs CSD Municipal (GUA) at 8:15pm
  • Alianza FC (SLV) vs FC Motagua (HON) at 10:30pm

Thursday November 5th

  • Waterhouse FC (JAM) vs Arcahaie FC (HAI) at 6pm
    • Arcahie qualified due to Veredes FC (BLZ) withdrew
  • CS Herediano (CRC) vs Real Esteli FC (NCA) at 8:15 pm
  • CD Olimpia (HON) vs Managua FC (NCA) at 10:30pm
