Jets Try To Begin New Era as They Unveil Uniforms

The next generation of New York Jets football is here. On Thursday night, the Jets hosted a launch event for their new uniforms and logo inside Gotham Hall in New York City. The event was hosted by actor/comedian JB Smoove in front of New York Jets fans and media.

The first to be revealed at Gotham Hall was the new logo. The new logo was designed to be more sleek and modern. The changes from the previous logo include writing out the words “New York” instead of the abbreviated “NY” in the previous logo, a new “Gotham Green” color, a new football design, and a new oval shape. Along with the primary logo, there are also three new secondary logos to go along with it. These include an unbound logo which will appear on the helmet (bottom left), a New York ball logo (bottom middle), and a Jets word mark (bottom right).

The Jets then, finally, revealed the new uniforms, after teasing fans for over three months. The new uniforms come in three colorways and contain several new additions. Each colorway is different and was given its own distinct name; Gotham Green, Spotlight White, and Stealth Black. To start, the helmet features a unique pearlescent and contains the new unbound logo on the sides. The jersey now has the words “New York” stitched along the front of the jersey. A brand new font for nameplates and numbers have also been implemented. Additionally, a new design feature, entitled “Jet Edge”, can be seen on the shoulders of each of the three new colorways.  “Jet Edge” was created to represent relentless speed and the Jets taking flight.

The new uniforms are designed by Nike and feature some of the most cutting edge technology ever seen in a football uniform. The new jerseys are Nike’s lightest weight jersey to date and are designed with 100% four-way stretch woven fabric which wicks moisture and repels water. The jerseys contain fewer fabric panels than previous designs and minimal seams for better stretch, range of motion, and durability for players. They also contain laser perforations across the entire uniform and have a vented neck grille for better breathability and durability for players. Arguably the most beneficial feature of the jersey comes from its shrink wrap fit, which gives opponents fewer points of the uniform to grab on to.

The first uniform revealed was the Gotham Green colorway.  It features the new Gotham Green color and contains a green jersey with either green pants or white pants. The slogan for this jersey is that it is “developed to captivate and electrify”.

The second uniform revealed was the Spotlight White colorway. These uniforms feature a spin on the classic all-white New York Jet uniforms. The slogan for this is that it is “built to perform on the biggest stage”.

Stealth Black

The final uniform revealed was the Stealth Black colorway. This is the Jets new alternate uniform and is made up of a black jersey and pants. The slogan for this one is “inspired by the toughness and grit of New York”.

                                                  By the Numbers

The last time the Jets altered their uniforms was in 1998. In 1998:

  • Bill Clinton was president
  • Google was founded
  • The ‘Euro’ became the sole currency in Europe
  • Saving Private Ryan and Godzilla premiered in theaters
  • Titanic won 11 Oscars at the Academy Awards
  • Frank Sinatra passed away
  • A gallon of gas cost $1.15
