Being a Jet fan might be the hardest thing to do in sports. Especially this year. They are an absolute dumpster fire with ZERO upside. So as a Jet fan I do not want Gang Green to win a single game this year, and according to Vegas they won’t. The 2017 New York Jets are not favored in a single game this season, and they have been given the worst odds to win the Super Bowl ever, EVER!
With that being said, I am being a responsible fan, and looking toward the future. And that future is one, Sam Darnold. Darnold’s breakout performance was at last year’s Rose Bowl, Darnold threw for 453 yards and 5 Touchdowns in USC’s victory over Penn State.
Now, Jet fans, I know what you’re thinking, “Another USC quarterback??? Remember the last one we had?? The butt fumble??” I understand your concern, but Sam Darnold is on a different planet than Mark Sanchez, when it comes to talent.
College football experts are saying Sam Darnold is the biggest “must have” QB since Andrew Luck, and I say sign me up for that. I’m no expert, but I can use my eyeballs. In USC’s game against Stanford, a ranked team, Sam Darnold made it look like he was playing against High Schoolers. As Darnold put a 42 piece on the board as he threw for over 300 yards and 4 Touchdowns.
Darnold is very good, but he is not perfect, as he showed this past week at home versus The Texas Longhorns. I was fully expecting the Trojans to put a spanking on the Longhorns, but that did not happen. Darnold still threw for nearly 400 yards and 3 Touchdowns, but he had 2 costly interceptions that kept Texas in the game, when they should’ve been put away. USC still pulled out the overtime win, but it still felt underwhelming for what should have been.
As the college football season rolls on, people are going to fall in love with other Quarterbacks in the nation along with Sam Darnold, but I am here to tell you DON’T FALL FOR IT. Yes, Lamar Jackson is gonna put up outstanding numbers as he runs and throws for a billion yards and touchdowns, but how many running Quarterbacks have panned out in the history of the NFL? Joe Webb or RGIII anyone? Another beloved QB is going to be Baker Mayfield, especially after beating THE Ohio State early in the season. In my mind Baker Mayfield is very Johnny Football-esc, very electric in college, and a bit of a wild card off the field.
Please for the love of God, give me Sam Darnold on the Jets, in my lifetime I have not seen a true franchise QB that could give the Jets a real chance to make some noise. I was so desperate that I fell, head over heels for Ryan Fitzpatrick. He absolutely hoodwinked me into believing the Jets could be something, but of course he still was and always will be, Ryan Fitzpatrick.
So, Jet fans, don’t torture yourself this season, you deserve better. Go all in on Sam Darnold, and continue to look toward the future, because it can only get better. (I Hope)
PS: It would be the most Jets move ever to either get the 1st pick and just draft a defensive lineman, or get the 1st pick and Sam Darnold decides to stay in college for another year.
