After the Red Dragons played a double overtime thriller last Friday, they added another thrilling overtime game Sunday September 8th, ending in a 3-2 victory over Rutgers-Newmark. The Red Dragons found themselves in familiar territory Friday night against the Clarkson Golden Knights.
With good performances by the two Cortland goalkeepers, Freshman Danika Svendsen and Freshman Abby Miller, each had a save to help keep the Golden Knights off the scoreboard. The defense also stood up to the Golden Knights offense by only allowing them to get two shots on goal the entire game.
The second half seemed like the Red Dragons were always on the attack. The Red Dragons totaled nineteen shots on goal. Freshman Forward Erin Valente led the team with nine shots on goal.
Cortland had many chances to score especially in the second half when they found themselves on offense for a majority of the period. The Golden Knights goalkeeper Sophomore Elyse Green stood tall as she totaled seven saves on Cortland’s nineteen shots.
After three scoreless periods, and two overtime scoreless periods, the game ended in a 0-0 tie. For the Red Dragons their record goes to (1-0-2) still unbeaten. For the Golden Knights their record goes to (1-1-1).
The Red Dragons will be in action tomorrow night as they take on the Morrisville State September 9th at Morrisville.
