In their final home contest of the season, the Cortland Red Dragons (9-12) hosted the Brockport Golden Eagles(14-6-2) on Saturday night at Cortland’s Alumni Arena. The Golden Eagles outplayed Cortland throughout and would go on to prevail by a score of 5-1.
Brockport got off to a fast start with a trio of goals in the first period, two of which were scored by Freshman, Jordan Renaud. Renaud would go on to add an assist in the 2nd putting Brockport up 4-0. Cortland’s first and only goal came 15:05 into the 2nd Period when team captain, Stefano Alonzi, took a feed from Oliver Lester and went top shelf. Cortland goaltender Nick Modica tallied 30 saves, as Jake Moore of Brockport had 21 of his own.
After the game, the only senior on this year’s Red Dragon squad, Mike Crowley, was honored on the ice. Crowley, from nearby Buffalo N.Y., has now played in 91 games in his career at Cortland, playing all 25 games in his Sophomore and Junior seasons and all 23 so far as a Senior. Crowley’s 13 assists and 16 points both lead the team, as he has raised his career point total to 58.
Crowley will lead the Red Dragons out onto the ice in their final two regular-season games next week, at Plattsburgh and at Potsdam, as he looks to end his college career on a high note.
