What a way to start off the 2nd leg games. Tottenham beat Dortmund 1-0, making the aggregate score 4-0, making Tottenham advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. On the other hand, Real Madrid took a beating, losing to AJAX 1-4, making the aggregate score 3-5, advancing AJAX to the quarter-finals.
Coming in with a 3-0 lead, Tottenham took a back seat early in the game, starting out with 5 defenders trying to counter off of Dortmund’s attacks. Dortmund came out firing getting one chance after another, but Hugo Lloris was a stone wall today, not letting anything past him.
In the second half, Harry Kane put Tottenham ahead 1-0 with a clinical finish from just outside the box on their only shot on goal for the whole game. Dortmund tried to fight back the rest of the game with having 19 shots during the game compared to Tottenham’s 5, but could not manage to score.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, looked like the worse team the whole game. Although they had plenty of shots with 20, Real Madrid just could not find the back of the net. AJAX steamed-rolled the defending Champions League champions 4-1 with some wonder goals that left everyone’s jaws on the floor.
AJAX was the underdog coming into this game, losing the first leg 2-1 to Real Madrid just two weeks ago, but they showed that they belong on the biggest stage by shocking the soccer world.
This upset will be talked about for years to come as many see this loss from Real Madrid as an end of an era. Once so feared by all the clubs around the world as early as just last season, Real Madrid now is nothing but a lion with no teeth.
